The Environmental and Sustainability Advisor is a member of the Operations Division responsible for providing SME advice and assurance to projects and for generating and promoting a positive vision for the Environment and Sustainability across the Lab.

In this role you will be;

- Providing a high quality internal and external environmental and sustainability SME consultancy service
- Leading on the development of an agreed risk based audit programme for environmental compliance and sustainability within FMS Infrastructure Projects and to provide crown oversight of the implementation of this programme
- Taking ownership for improving sustainability and utilities performance across the Organisation and act as Dstl’s Representative in appropriate MOD Working Groups
- Supporting the development of an Environmental Risk Assessment aligned with the requirements of the Major Accident Control Regulations
- Providing support and advice to the wider FMS Capabilities including water infrastructure requirements, hazardous trials, pollution and environmental permitting processes
- Supporting the Site FM Contract Manager in the smooth running of day-to-day service delivery at site level, handling and resolving raised issues.
- Providing Technical support to Dstl’s Controlled Waste Administrator
- Facilitating the relationship of other external suppliers that carry out works on the Dstl estate that impact the overall FM service provision
- Participating in networking with other FM professionals inside and outside government, and share good practice.
- Using the best interpersonal skills and embracing a collaborative approach with S&T Divisions and Strategic Partners to optomise outcomes for Dstl.
- Management of partners including DIO, Principal Contractors/Designers, and Environmental Regulators.

This role does not have Line Management responsibilities. The post holder will be responsible for setting out Dstl’s expectations of performance in terms of the levels of services delivered and how these are achieved.

We are looking for someone who has;

- Working knowledge of NEC3 contract management.
- Proven ability and desire to develop relationships with key partners.
- Knowledge of Health, Safety & Environmental Protection standards in FM
- Experience in the management and delivery of projects under a recognised industry methodology
- Knowledge and experience if writing Environmental Risk Assessments
- Knowledge of risk based audit programmes for environmental compliance and sustainability
  Person specification - Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental Protection standards in FM

- Experience of working to budget.

- Proven track record in Facilities Management and of successfully managing TFM services.

- Working with Environmental Regulators and experience of Environmental Auditing.

- Consistent track record of successfully engaging in contract and supplier relationships in a complex shared service environment.

- Knowledge of ISO 14001.

Desirable

- Experience in the management and delivery of projects under a recognised industry methodology

- Knowledge of SFG20 standards

- Working knowledge of NEC3 contract management. Qualifications Desirable

- A recognised Environmental qualification at National Qualifications Framework Level 6 or equivalent. Relevant experience will also be taken into consideration.

- Chartered/higher membership of an Environmental Professional Body (e.g. FIEMA)
